Since it began in 1993, Putumayo World Music has contributed to many non-profits doing good work in regions where the music originates. Putumayo has focused its non-profit efforts on various local as well as international NGOs working in different parts of the world. We intend to keep on supporting these organizations and other specific NGOs working in the countries represented on our CD collections. We are pleased to support the following charitable organizations.
ACCION International
ACCION International is a non-profit organization that equips people with the financial tools they need to work their way out of poverty. By providing "micro" loans, financial services and business training to poor men and women in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the United States, ACCION's partner microfinance organizations help people work their way up the economic ladder, with dignity and pride. A portion of the proceeds from Latin Reggae goes to benefit this organization.
Axe Project
Established in 1990 in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, the Axé Project is an internationally renowned non-profit organization dedicated to educating and defending the rights of disadvantaged children and promoting the cultural development of children and laborers. A portion of the proceeds from Brazilian Playground goes to benefit this organization.
Genesis Foundation
The Genesis Foundation strives to give disadvantaged children in Colombia and in Latino communities in the United States the opportunity for a successful future through access to the quality education they are too often excluded from. By funding non-profit organizations that provide quality education and complementary health services to underserved children, Genesis seeks to give these youngsters the basic building blocks for their development. A portion of the proceeds from Latin Playground goes to benefit this organization.
Global Exchange
Global Exchange is a membership-based international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world. Since their founding in 1988, they have successfully increased public awareness of root causes of injustice while building international partnerships and mobilizing for change. A portion of the proceeds from Cuba goes to benefit this organization.
Global Fund for Women
Global Fund for Women is a nonprofit grantmaking foundation that advances women's human rights worldwide. The Global Fund is a network of women and men who believe that ensuring women's full equality and participation in society is one of the most effective ways to build a just, peaceful and sustainable world. They raise funds from a variety of sources and make grants to women-led organizations that promote the economic security, health, safety, education and leadership of women and girls. A portion of the proceeds from Women of the World: Acoustic goes to benefit this organization.
International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.
Jeunes Musiciens du Monde
Jeunes Musiciens du Monde (Young Musicians of the World) is a Québec-based non-profit organization that works with young people from low-income villages and neighborhoods in Québec and abroad. Partnering with Jeunesse du Monde (Youth of the World), their mission is to open and operate high-quality free schools around the world that teach children the traditional music of their country. A portion of the proceeds from Quebec goes to benefit this organization.
Mercy Corps
Mercy Corps is an international relief and development organization that alleviates suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure and productive communities. Each year, the agency provides help and hope to 6 million people in more than 35 countries. A portion of the proceeds from Acoustic Africa goes to benefit this organization.
Music Maker Relief Foundation
Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern musical traditions gain recognition and meet their day to day needs. Their work affirms to these artists that we value the gifts of music and inspiration they have delivered to the world. A portion of the proceeds from Blues Around the World goes to benefit this organization.
Oxfam America/Oxfam Novib Netherlands
Oxfam America and Oxfam Novib Netherlands are part of Oxfam International, an international development and relief agency active in 100 countries. Working with local partners, Oxfam delivers development programs and emergency relief services, and campaigns for change in global practices and policies that keep people in poverty. A portion of the proceeds from Acoustic Africa (Oxfam America) and Mali goes to benefit these organizations.
Pan American Health and Education Foundation
The Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) is a US-based nonprofit organization working to combat disease, lengthen life, improve health care services, foster health research, and enhance the capacities of health care workers primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean through grant-making and direct program implementation. A portion of the proceeds from ¡Salsa! goes to benefit this organization.
Population Services International (PSI)
Population Services International (PSI)’s “Five & Alive” program is a fundraising and awareness campaign of Population Services International (PSI), that focuses on the global health crisis facing children under the age of five and their families. Putumayo World Music will contribute $5,000 from sales of World Sing-Along during the period October 2012 through October 2014 to Population Services International (PSI) in support of its Five & Alive® campaign to ensure that all children have a healthy start to life, no matter where they are born.
Seva
The name Seva (say-va) is a Sanskrit word meaning "selfless service." Seva was founded in 1978 by a group of medical professionals, counterculture activists, musicians, and compassionate individuals, all dedicated to the alleviation of suffering in the world. Most notably among them are public health expert Dr. Larry Brilliant, spiritual leader Ram Dass, and humanitarian activist Wavy Gravy. Seva builds sustainable health programs that serve vulnerable populations, especially indigenous peoples, women and children. In Asia, Africa and Latin America, Seva helps end preventable blindness, having restored eyesight to over 3 million people.
Slow Food
Slow Food is an international organization that envisions a future food system based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Putumayo's contributions support 'Terra Madre'-- a world meeting of food communities and a forum for discussion on sustainable food production and the defense of biodiversity. Terra Madre brings together farmers, food artisans, chefs and universities, to create a network for alternative dialogue. A portion of the proceeds from Music from the Wine Lands goes to benefit this organization.

The Said Foundation
The Saïd Foundation works to bring positive and lasting change to the lives of children and young people in the Middle East. The Saïd Foundation is non-sectarian and non-political and encourages development and understanding through further education, child development and the promotion of Arab culture. A portion of the proceeds from Acoustic Arabia goes to benefit this organization.
Wildlife Conservation Society
The Wildlife Conservation Society, headquartered at the world famous Bronx Zoo, performs activities that save wildlife and wild lands through careful science, conservation, education, and management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks. These activities change attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable interaction on both a local and a global scale.
